一切經歷只是一座拱門

——72級同學聚會發言稿

時光難留，人生嘆短，四十年前我和你們一樣，都是容光煥發的年輕人，如今都滿頭白霜！這使我想到我家中盆栽的朝開夕謝的仙人球花。

仙人球是一種非常不起眼的花卉，而且渾身帶刺，但卻具有異常倔犟和頑強的生命力。傳說仙人球不會開花，即使開花，機率也很少，持續時間至多也只有一天，但很有觀賞價值。仙人球開花機率少，花期短，這是我親歷目睹的事實。所以，據說仙人球開花象征幸運，代表奇跡，能得到原諒。今年我家中前幾天有這么多仙人球花開放，真是奇跡！真是幸運的征兆：因為能與四十年前的學生們聚會。八十多位的同學來自國內外四面八方，四十年一歡聚，難得！幸運！喜事！下面用雙語雜吟一首，略表感懷：

致仙人球花 To Cactus Flower

幽人栽種自然隨，The idler cultivates ye without special care，自放自收夜自歸。Of thy own will ye bloom，then wither fair and square。

一朝一夕匆匆過，Staying only for one day，ye pass hastily into night，芬芳灑盡也無虧。Leaving behind no regret after shedding all thy light。

我們的同學們1972年進大學，如今該都是年逾花甲之人了。下面再就根據英國詩人丁尼生的名詩Ulysses的部分詩行進行改編、改譯，在此吟頌，作為自我鼓勵，也與同學們共享互勉：

What I met on my way is only part of my life。

But all experience is an arch where through

我們的經歷只是我們人生的一部分；

然而，一切經歷只是一座拱門，拱門

之外還有未游歷的世界在閃光，新的世界永遠出現在征途前方。

生命不只是呼吸！幾次生命相加

也太短，何況每人生命只有一次，對于老人，更是所剩無幾；

……

我這班白的心靈迫切地向往

去追隨知識，像那西沉的星星，追到人類思想極限以外的地方。

你我現在都老了；但老年人

也還有他的榮譽感，還有他的用場。

可以有所作為，可以做點高尚事情，老年人與神抗爭也并非不恰當。

來吧，朋友們，發現新世界為時不晚。

我們雖然被奪走了很多，剩下也還有不少時光；

雖然我們已經沒有從前那樣的精力

去戰天斗地，但我們還和從前一樣——

有一樣的勇氣，有一樣的雄心，雖被時光和命運摧弱，但仍有堅強的意志

去斗爭，去求索，去發現，不屈服。
