在平時的學習中，自己做到以下幾個方面：

一、學前多預習。顧名思義，就是在老師還沒有教我們之前，提前自己學習。

以物理為例，在老師未講之前，先把重要的知識點，公式勾畫出來。還有那就是例題，我通常看到例題的時候，就拿出一個練習本出來，把題目抄上，然后根據自己對于這新一章的理解，把題目做出來再和書上的答案對比一下，如果結果正確，就看看過程有沒有可以改進的地方。如果錯了檢查自己，是公式推導錯了，還是計算錯誤，再有不會的做上標記，等待上課時向老師提問，解答疑惑。

二、上課專心聽講，邊聽邊記好筆記。

以上語文課為例，我們在上課的時候，除認真聽老師講述外，還要手不停筆。對老師在文言文講解的重點字、詞、句、段做注音，作解釋，并加深印象，強化記憶。在老師講課時通常會對于重點句會有賞析，在這時要保證在同學說的時候不打斷他說話，要認真聽，思考與自己的答案有什么不同，要學會取長補短，在老師講的時候要認真記。對老師講述的文章主題、結構特點、寫作方法做清楚的記錄，不要寫的過于簡單，到以后復習的時候也不懂自己寫的是什么，以備以后考試前對于課文的強化記憶和理解。

三、課后及時復習。

這一點應該成為我們良好學習習慣的重要組成的部分。我們下午放學后有充足的時間復習我們學過的'每一門功課，復習時除做好課課練習以外，我們還要對當天課堂上掌握不好的內容重新學習，再做習題。對容易遺忘的內容要再讀、再寫，加強記憶。

就拿英語來說，當天學習的英語單詞，在三五天內遺忘的速度最快，因此，我們要利用晚飯后、早讀這些時間多讀、多寫，記住發音和構成字母。從而保證學的下、記得住、用得上。順便說一句：不要認為在晚上背單詞和句子有多累，就算你不背，第二天聽寫不過還是要被老師留下的，我發現有些同學愛偷懶晚上不背，聽寫不過，但在老師那里，不過幾分鐘的時間就過了，為什么你們總愛偷點懶而不好好背呢?僅僅只幾分鐘的時間，還非要老師督促著來學習，可最后學不到知識的還是你們，而不是老師。加緊努力吧

4、走出冷漠

誰是中國上個月最有名的人物? 這當然要數馬加爵了——這個殺害了四名同學的大學生。很多人將他的犯罪歸結于他的貧窮和不全面的教育。但我覺得他的犯罪還跟他周圍同學的冷漠有很大關系。

冷漠是流行于當今校園及整個社會中的一種可怕的疾病。有的同學在一起學習了4年卻從未說過話，有的同學幾天沒去上課卻無人知曉，還有的同學有了嚴重的心理問題卻得不到關心。

有人說：像馬加爵那樣有心理問題的人需要的不是關心而是心理治療。但在一個人生病的時候，除了醫生的治療，他需要的還有周圍人的關心。一個微笑，一聲問候都能為他們的生活帶來陽光。

有一天半夜，我碰巧聽見寢室里一個平時很內向的女孩在輕聲抽泣。為了不驚動她，我給她發了一條短信來安慰她。第二天，他告訴我那晚她哭了是因為她的一位好朋友開生日聚會沒有請她參加，她覺得自己被大家所忽視了。但我對短信卻給了她很大安慰，讓她覺得還是有人惦記著她的。

5、I Am Tripping My Elephant Here

Once upon a time, a weenie ant was walking on his way.As he was walking, suddenly he felt the ground shaking terribly.He looked around with his paranoid eyes and saw an elephant walking right behind him.Quickly, the little ant covered himself with dirt, but one leg was unfortunately left out.A sparrow saw everything, so she flew down with the purpose of teasing the ant: ―Hey, chicken!Watch out your leg, it‘s out!‖ The ant felt embarrassed at first but then calmly responded: ― Shi…I am going to trip that elephant.‖

Right now, I‘m standing on this glamorous stage.But everything here reminds me of is a not so fun memory.Around this time last year I was in Nanjing competing in another speech contest.That was the first time for me to be in such a large event.Of course the pressure I was under was immense too.After a sleepless and stressful night, I went onto that stage without the feeling in my legs.That speech 6

turned out to be horrible.I don‘t remember how I get down from there, but I do remember afterwards I just wanted to find a hole to hide in just like the ant in the story.Back at my school, it took a long time for me to recover.Thanks to all the help I got from my special friends.My confidence was restored.After rounds of giving speeches and answering tough questions, I am here today.From all that I‘ve been through I‘ve learned that a good future is based on a forgotten past, if I want my life to go on well I have to let go of my past failure.So today, with out fear, I am tripping my elephant again.5、我又一次在絆大象

7、Make Every Moment Count

One night, I complained to my mom about the lack of time.Finally she said,＂you are short of time just because you waste precious minutes on complaints and anxiety.The point is, no matter how full your schedule is, if you try really hard, you can always fit in some thing more.＂

It is the same with filling the jar.Even if you place a dozen fist-sized rocks and a bucket of gravel into the jar, there is still space for sand and water between the rocks and gravel.The lack of time is just the excuse for my negligence of every single minute.I believe that the great dividing line between success and failure can be expressed in six words,＂I did not have enough time.＂The fact is I do have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.The point is I have never touched upon the real meaning of life which lies in snatching, seizing and enjoying every minute of it.No idleness, no delay, no procrastination, no complaint!It is during my moments of complaining or hesitation that my destiny is shaped.Once I make full use of every moment, I believe that, my worries will be gradually cut down to nothing.Time is the most valuable of all our possessions, but the most perishable as well.As Henry David Thoreau said,＂You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment.＂

Whenever I fell the lack of time in the future, I will tell myself ＂Carpe diem , seize the day, make every moment count.＂

7、抓住每分每秒

有天晚上，我向媽媽抱怨自己事情太多，時間不夠。她說道：―你抱怨沒有時間就是因為你把珍貴的分分秒秒都浪費在抱怨和焦慮上。關鍵是，無論你的時間表排得多滿，如果你真的努力嘗試了，你還是總能間插地做些事情。‖

這同填充廣口瓶是一個道理，即使你將一小堆拳頭大小的石塊和一桶碎石倒進瓶里，也還能繼續倒入沙子和水，使其漏進石塊的間隙中去。

8、Beggars Today

Beggars are one of the most familiar groups in every city.They accompany us from our childhood until now, and I've found both the beggars and I change in this journey.Years ago as a little girl, when I came across some old and disabled beggars on the road, I'd donate some pocket money to them, happily thinking I was helping.s I have grown older, I've found the number of beggars has grown larger and they are more diverse.They appear in every corner of the city, on the overbridge, on the street, near restaurants, and even at your door.In contrast with the old days, it seems like the situation with beggars today is more complicated, which has made me hesitate before deciding whether to help them or not.It's hard for me to give them money considering some who appear beggars in day time but dress up and go to fancy restaurants at night;and some who are controlled by some illegal organization and the money they get all goes to the organization.If I help them, I'd be making the problem worse, I'd be doing harm to the society, indirectly.But it's also hard not to give them money, considering there're real beggars who really need help.If I don't help them, who will? And where is my sympathy?

What hurts me the most is not how hard it is to distinguish the real help-seekers from the many false ones, but that some children are forced by adults, sometimes even their parents, to beg.They grow up despised by the world, out of mainstream society.When I see their eyes filled with desperation and impudence instead of purity and innocence, my heart sinks.We don't know how they will face the world when they grow up, how this will shape their characters, and what they may do to the society, to perpetuate this cycle of violence.Months ago the Fu Jian government has promulgated a new policy to deal with 8 kinds of beggars.An internet survey shows that over 80% of voters reacted positively toward the policy.We know that one single policy cannot solve a problem as complex as this one, but we do look forward to some improvement.I wish all humanity can live like human.8、今日乞丐

在城市中，乞丐是我們最熟悉的群體之一。他們伴隨著我們的成長，從童年直到現在。在這個過程中，我發現，乞丐和我都在變。

小時候，每當看到路旁的乞丐，通常是老人或殘疾人，我會給他們一些零錢，并且高興地認為我幫了他們。

長大后，我發現身邊乞丐的數量有所增加，而且他們種類繁多。他們無所不在，天橋上，大街上，飯館旁，家門口，城市中處處是他們的身影。比起過去，今天的乞丐似乎更加復雜，使得我在決定幫不幫他們的時候猶豫不決。

想到那些白天裝作乞丐行乞，而夜晚換裝后跑到賓館作樂的人；想到那些被不法集團控制，然后把乞討來的錢上交給集團的人，我真的很難做到給他們錢。可是，想到那些真正需要幫助的乞丐，又很難做到不幫他們。如果不幫他們，我的同情心死到哪去了？

最讓我難受的，并不是因為從眾多的假乞丐中找出真乞丐是多么的困難，而是那些被成人，甚至被父母教唆，去乞討的孩子們。他們在歧視中長大，和主流社會脫離。當我看到他們眼睛里本應有的純真和童稚被絕望和無恥取代時，心里便很難受。我們不知道他們長大后會怎樣面對這個世界，他們的性格會被童年的經歷塑造成什么樣子，以及他們有可能對社會做出怎樣的事情---讓惡性循環繼續？

幾個月前，福建省頒布了一項針對八類乞丐的新政策。網上調查顯示，超過80%的人對此政策持樂觀態度。雖然如此復雜的問題不能通過單單一項政策得以解決，我們還是期待著一些改善。愿所有的人都能像人一樣活著。

9、My Views on Receiving Education

In my early years, I did not see the value of education.When I was going on thirteen, I started to run my own shop.From then on, I worked hard to become a successful businessman.One day I realized the importance of the English language in the business world and started taking night classes.I was able to communicate well with foreign customers after two years of English study.But I started to feel that, in the long run, having a limited knowledge of English was not enough to make my business successful.I knew that only a well-rounded education could guarantee my success in the future.When I was eighteen, I had to make a decision to continue doing business or go back to school.There was one obstacle keeping me from getting an advanced education.I had only completed elementary school up to that point.I then went back to senior high school after four months of tutoring in different subjects.Being at school for the first time after so many years was somewhat embarrassing because my classmates were at least two or three years younger than I.I concluded that my age did not matter.The important thing was getting into college.I took the College Entrance Exams.Although my math exam result was only one point below the required score.I never gave up hope.The following year, I took it again and received the highest score in my city.Achieving such an amazing result gave me encouragement and courage necessary to continue my education to the next step.I am now in my second year of college and know that it is never too late to learn.My passion for studying and improving myself will never come to a halt as long as I continue to live.―Live and Learn.‖ is the motto I have adopted.I believe with an education I will succeed.So, if you are wondering whether education is important, don‘t hesitate a moment to step up and seize the

opportunity.9、我對教育的看法

在我小的時候，我不覺得教育有什么價值。在13歲的時候，我開始經營我自己的商店。從那時開始，我為成為一個成功的商人而努力工作。

一天，我意識到了英語對做生意的重要性并且開始上夜校。

在經過兩年的英語學習之后，我已經能夠很流利的和外國顧客交流。但我逐漸意識到，從長遠來看，我現在僅有的英語知識無法使我的生意蓬勃發展。我知道只有淵博的知識是我未來成功的保證。

18歲的時候，我必須在繼續從商和重新回學校學習之間做出選擇。當時我僅有的小學學歷成為我接受高等教育的一大障礙。經過4個月各門功課的惡補，我又回到了高中。多年后再次回到學校，讓我有些尷尬。因為我的同班同學至少比我小2至3歲。然而在我看來，年齡不是問題，重要的是能上大學。

我參加了高考。雖然我的數學只比分數線低了一分。但我沒有放棄。第二年，我又參加了高考并取得了當地的第一名。得到這樣一個令人欣喜的結果，給了我進一步深造的動力和膽量。

現在，我上大學二年級，也知道學無止境。只要我活者，我對學習和自我充實的熱情就不會減退。

―活到老，學到老‖是我的座右銘。我堅信只有學習才會使我成功。因此，如果你對接受教育的重要性有所懷疑，不要猶豫，勇敢的邁出第一步，這樣幸運之神便會光顧你。

10、Change

Leo Tolstoy once said, everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.He is right.We always have great plans and dreams in our minds… too ready to achieve something grand that changes the world or benefits all of mankind.For example;we hate pollution and have made up our minds to find new energy sources that keep the environment clean.Yet we still litter on the ground.We complain about traffic jams, so we plan to build more highways to solve the problem, but it never occurs to us that our failure to follow traffic regulations is the leading cause of this situation.We are so concerned that the violence in the media has a bad impact on our children, we urge the government to set laws to protect them.But, do we, as adults, set a good example for our kids? We use nasty words and even spit on the ground in front of

them, I dare to say, we harm more!

In my opinion, before we decide to change the world, we had better change ourselves first.As ordinary individuals, we do not have the power to change the world.But we can change our habit of littering, spitting, cussing, we can respect the environment around us, we must act as good models for our kids.If each of us does all of these little things, all of us, millions and millions of individuals together, together we will be strong …strong enough to change our world!

So please, the next time you do something, think how your actions influence not only you, but those around you too, especially our children …and perhaps more importantly…our planet!

10、改變

列夫·托爾斯泰曾說過：每個人都想改變這個世界，但是沒有人想到改變自己。

他說的很有道理，我們每個人都心懷偉大時志向，時刻準備去干一番能造福全人類的大事業。比如，我們痛恨環境污染，所以我們下定決心去開發新的更高效更干凈的能源來保護我們的環境，但是同時我們卻隨手亂扔垃圾；我們抱怨大城市的交通堵塞，計劃造更多的高速路來解決交通問題，但是我們從來沒有想過，如果我們能遵守交通規則話，那么這一問題是不是可以得到很大得緩解呢？我們擔心電視電影里面得暴力會對我們得孩子產生不良的影響，于是我們敦促政府通過立法來保護未成年人，但是我們這些大人又做得怎么樣呢？我們為我們的下一代做好了表率嗎？我們說粗話，甚至在孩子面前抽煙。不客氣地說，我們對孩子的不良影響更多！

在我看來，在我們打算改變這個世界之前，我們最好先改變一下自己。作為一個普通人，我們其實沒有改變這個世界的能力，但是我可以改變我們隨地扔垃圾，隨地吐痰的壞習慣，我們應該學會去保護環境，我們應該為我們的孩子起好的表率作用。

如果我們每個人都能從小事起，那么千千萬萬個人力量匯聚在一起，那力量是強大的，足以改變這個世界。

朋友，當您在做某一件事情的時候，請您想一想，您的行為會對您周圍的人產生怎樣的影響，因為，您的行為不單單影響到您自己，還有您周圍的人，更重要的是我們的孩子…甚至我們的世界。

11、No One Can Be Perfect

―If I could reach higher, just for one moment to touch the sky…‖---this is from my favorite song Reach.When we are appreciating the passionate melody of Gloria Estefan, we could hardly imagine that she could return to the stage after her paralysis.In the year 1990, this Cuban singer was knocked down in a traffic accident, and the doctor declared that she might never walk again.But Gloria did not give up and kept up constant exercising.Just one year after the disaster, she stood up again and presented this encouraging song at the Atlanta Olympics.Whenever I think of Gloria, I can‘t help recalling my memory seven years ago, when I first entered university.Naturally shy, ordinary looking, average scores in study, just like an ugly duckling, I seemed to be the least outstanding one in my class.And the successive failures in the beginning led me into despair.―Am I destined to take the back seat to others?‖ Unwilling to submit to the fate, I paid more efforts on my study as well as many other activities, film dubbing, recital, drama… cause I just want to catch every little opportunity to prove myself.Constant effort yields sure success.Thanks to the competition, I received some awards and most of all, I gained the courage and confidence to face any difficulties in my life journey.Life is just like farming, and what you can reap depends a lot on

13、The Importance of Keeping Optimistic

Honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen，Good afternoon!Today I would like to talk about the importance of keeping optimistic.When we encounter difficulties in life, we notice that some of us choose to bury their heads in the sand.Unfortunately, however, this attitude will do you no good, because if you will have no courage even to face them, how can you conquer them? Thus, be optimistic, ladies and gentlemen, as it can give you confidence and help you see yourself through the hard times, just as Winston Churchill once said, ―An optimist sees an opportunity in every calamity;a pessimist sees a calamity in every opportunity.‖

Ladies and Gentlemen, keeping optimistic, you will be able to realize, in spite of some hardship, there‘s always hope waiting for you, 17

which will lead you to the ultimate success.Historically as well as currently, there are too many optimists of this kind to enumerate.You see, Thomas Edison is optimistic;if not, the light of hope in his heart could not illuminate the whole world.Alfred Nobel is optimistic;if not, the explosives and the prestigious Nobel Prize would not have come into being.And Lance Armstrong is also optimistic;if not, the devil of cancer would have devoured his life and the world would not see a 5-time winner of the Tour De France.A rose may be beautiful, or maybe not;that depends on your attitude only, and so does success, so does life.Hindrances and difficulties do exist, but if you are optimistic, then they are only episodes on your long way to the throne of success;they are more bridges than obstacles!Now I prefer to end my speech with the great British poet Shelley‘s lines: ―If winter comes, can spring be far behind?‖ Thank you!

The title of my speech is ―What college education means to me‖.Now reflecting on the past two and half years of my college experience, I come to realize how much it has shaped me.For me, college education is a marvelous ship-builder who designed me from kneel plates up.With great vision, college education has equipped me, first with a powerful propeller----the sophisticated knowledge in certain field and wide exposure to other disciplines.By dedicating myself to the engineering courses in the day and immersing myself in the rich banquet of the world literature at night, I‘ve amassed the driving force for the future and enriched my soul.Besides, college education has also provided me with a precise compass----the sense of social responsibility.How can I best serve the interest of the public while achieving my self-fulfillment? China is faced with some enormous challenges as it enters the 21st century.In order to ensure the prosperity of our nation and its future generations we must confront and ultimately solve these challenges.Some of the more pressing issues facing China are universal.These include environmental degradation, over population and the effects of globalization.To overcome some of the things we need to implement include:

Enhancing our scientific and industrial technologies in such areas as IT, Bio-tech, AI and Cybernetics.Further develop public infrastructure in under developed regions.Promote education reform at all levels.Introduce sustainable development initiatives.The implementation of free trade agreement between China and ASEAN.The benefit to China in introducing these initiatives will be significant and far-reaching.It is important to realize that these initiatives need to filter down through all elements of the society in China.For instance, cutting edge technologies and intellectual properties;the development of e-commerce based economy;an education system that encourages innovation and creativity;increased foreign investment;higher living standards;more efficient use of natural resources.It is important for us to realize these reforms are both essential and necessary.These will help China to fulfill its vast and unrealized potential on the world stage.It will also contribute more to a globalized world of the new century.As for the future our task is not to foresee but to enable.15、我們的共同命運

（3）促進不同層次的教育改革；

16、Finding Me-time is Important

Hello, Dear teachers and fellow students.It is my honor to be here on this beautiful Friday morning to share with you my view on ―Me-time‖.In my opinion，finding me-time is important.With the development of the modern society, we students in China have more and more pressure.We have to spare every minute to study very hard and join various kinds of out-of-class training courses to improve ourselves.So we are really in lack of me-time which is helpful to keep ourselves from being over-stressed、tired and worried.I do not have as much fun as before and I always miss my childhood.Three hours of homework and two piano lessons one day make me have hardly any me-time to relax myself.I was once an active basketball player on my school team.But now, basketball, my best friend, I haven‘t touched it for almost two months.Me-time seems to have become a luxury.Last week, when I heard there was going to be a basketball match between our school and No 1 Middle School, I was so excited that I rushed home and told my parents the news.I asked my father, ― Dad, may I play basketball after school ? The coach says I am the best guard in our school.If I join the school basketball team, we are sure to beat No 1 Middle School this time.‖ My father showed his dispproval and said, ― Of course you can‘t.I‘m disappointed at you.Why do you have such a silly idea? Don‘t forget to work hard on your schoolwork and piano lessons.‖ In my parents‘ points of view, playing basketball is a waste of time.As far as I‘m concerned, the school assignment to the junior school students is too heavy.To grow into healthy and well-rounded adults, we should be allowed to have more me-time for relaxation.The pressure put on our students by excessive schoolwork can cause serious stress, which is unhealthy physically and mentally.My dear teachers, I hope you can assign less homework so we students can enjoy a period of me-time.My dear parents, would you please not follow me and remind me of study all the time? 19、I can handle it

I can never forget the summer in 1996.I went through an extremity of despair due to my failure in the National College Entrance Examination.It seemed that my dream of being a university student would never come true.One evening my father came and told me the story of Steven Callahan, who was crossing the Atlantic alone in his sailboat when it struck something and sank.It was a miracle that he survived and was found 76 days later(the longest anyone has survived a shipwreck on a life raft alone).Later in his narrative he wrote these sentences ―I tell myself I can handle it.Compared to what others have been through I‘m fortunate‖.Hearing these sentences I felt something important struck me.I believed my life would mot be that bad and it was proved to be true.Later during my study in the university I always told myself ―I can handle it‖ when my own goals seemed far off or when my problems seemed too overwhelming and every time I said it ,I always came back to my senses.Now I work as an English teacher in a middle school.Whenever my students complain about their difficulties in study or want to give up, I will tell the same story of Callahan to them.I just want to make them believe they can handle their difficulties because their circumstances are only bad compared to something better.But others have been through much worse.Then they will build up fortitude.So here, coming to us from the extreme edge of survival, are words that can give us strength.Whatever you‘re going through, tell yourself you can handle it.Compared to what others have been through, you‘re fortunate.Tell this to yourself over and over, and it will help you get through the rough spots with little more fortitude.19、我能挺過去的

21、Me and my Fears

Honorable judges, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:

It is a great honor and pleasure to be here on this beautiful Saturday morning to share with you my sentiments about life and passion for the English language.About a year and a half ago, I took part in my very first English Speech Contest.When I stood before the microphone with all eyes starring directly at me, I could hardly speak.I stood there, embarrassed and helpless, struggling in vain for the right thing to say.My fears had paralyzed me.While my passion for English has never changed, I lost my courage to speak in public.When my professor again encouraged me to take part in this Competition, I said ―no.‖ I couldn‘t endure yet another painful experience.He looked me straight in the eye and said something that pierced my heart.I will never forget his words.―Look,‖ he said, ―We all have our fears, and you have yours.You could twist your ankle in a basketball game, but then be afraid to ever play again.Running away can never dispel your fears, but action will.A winner is not one who never fails，but one who never quits.‖

I spent a whole day with his words twisting and turning in my mind.Then I made the bravest and wisest decision of my life: I would face my fears – and take part in the competition!

As it turned out, my dear old professor was right.Now, here I am, once again standing before a microphone.My heart is beating fast, and my mouth is dry, but most importantly, I have faced my fears--and that makes all the difference!

大概一年半以前，我參加了生平第一次演講比賽。站在麥克風前，面對觀眾們期待的眼神，我竟緊張的說不出話來。那一刻，我是多么無助啊！

我對于英語的摯愛從未改變，但卻從此失去了面對公眾演講的勇氣。當老教授鼓勵我參加希望英語風采大賽時，我拒絕了。他直視我的眼睛，說了一番令我終身難忘的話。―你瞧，‖他說，―我們都有自己的恐懼。你可能會在一場籃球比賽中扭腳，并從此害怕再打球。你只能用行動去克服自己的恐懼，逃避是沒有用的。生活中的成功者往往是永不放棄的人。‖

我花了一整天時間思考他的話。然后，我做出了一個勇敢而明智的決定：我要參加中央電視臺第五屆―希望之星‖英語風采大賽！

老教授是對的。我發揮出了自己的水平，一路殺進了全國總決賽。此時此刻，當我再一次站在了麥克風前，仍然心跳不止，但更重要的是，我終于能夠勇敢地面對我的恐懼了，而這已足夠了。

22、Knowledge collaboration and all-round education

Ladies and gentlemen，We engineering students take it for granted that technology is changing incredibly fast.We are thinking nervously and seriously whether our colleges are failing to provide a foundation in the skills currently needed in industry.Take my major telecommunications for example.Scientists say that 21st century is a biomedical time, not an electrical time.But without the help of electronic data processing and transformation, biomedical technology alone cannot go too far.Funny enough, the word biomedical itself is just a combination of two disciplines.So the interdisciplinary exploitation serves as the critical part for our electric and electronics world as well as any other fields to find new way of being.But the power of knowledge collaboration is certainly not restricted to science and engineering;it is in the full community of learning.Walking around campus I absorbed a reality that there is a seamless web between students from different professional 30

backgrounds.The engineering students are discussing animatedly in a philosophy lecture, speaking passionately in the public speaking club, and looking for sparkling ideas from learning history and arts.How wonderful that is!That, ladies and gentleman, is just a significant step forward to be well-rounded because once we jump out of the circle we can see the bigger picture.My friends, I hope that you have already got what university is all about.Please let me end my speech with the Nobel Prize winner Li Zhengdao‘s words: ―The realization of the perfect combination of science and engineering, science and arts, technology and humanity，is the greatest symbol of a university‘s success.‖ Thank you.22、知識的融合和人才的全面發展

但是知識的結合不僅僅局限在科學和工程中，而是在任何的學習中。徜徉在校園里，我看到了這樣一個事實：理工科學生們在哲學講座上討論得熱火朝天，在演講俱樂部里激情地演說，在歷史和藝術里尋找著閃光的思想。太棒了！朋友們，這就是我們能夠全面發展的重要一步，因為當我們跳出自己的圈子時，我們能看到更大的圖畫。

What do you think of this story? Life today is what you‘ve decided years ago, and so is the future: your decisions today will affect your destiny years later.Now I have two things to choose from: to go abroad, to find myself a decent job after graduation or to further my study as a postgraduate.I haven‘t worked out an answer to this question yet, but I know that whatever I do will directly affect my future.An Indian once said life is just like a game of cards, the cards in your hand represent opportunities, while the way you play decides the result you‘ll get.Looking back in history, during World War Ⅱ, Churchill who led the British people resolved to expect ―blood, toil, tears and sweat‖.They won the victory then.Today Shenzhou 5 took the first Chinese astronaut into space.I am sure that later there‘ll be more spacecrafts, like Shenzhou 6,7 and 8 ……

So what does the future look like? No one can tell.But I know the choice is yours, the future is now.Make good use of everyday, a man can achieve greater successes, a country can gain prosperity and the whole world can be united, as it has never been before.23、未來在于現在，選擇則在你的手中

就在兩個人即將入獄之時，看守讓他們每個人提一個要求。美國人喜歡抽煙，于是要了三大箱的雪茄；而猶太人則說，他只要一個可以與外界聯系的電話就可以了。兩年后，刑期已滿，第一個出來的是美國人，只見他手上拿著的，口袋里插著的都是煙，卻大叫到：―給我火柴！‖接著猶太人走了出來，他握緊看守的手說：―謝謝您給的電話，我的生意在這兩年間沒有賠卻增長了一倍。‖這個故事告訴了我們什么呢？多年前作的決定影響著你今天的生活，你今天的決定又會影響著多年之后的未來。現在我自己就面臨著這樣一個抉擇：是出國，畢業后找一份安定的職業還是去考研繼續深造。我還未找到自己的答案，但我明白無論我選擇了什么，都會直接的影響我的將來。

印度人曾說過，生命就像是一場紙牌游戲，你手里的牌代表著機遇，而你如何去出牌才真正的決定著你的輸贏。回望歷史，二戰期間，邱吉爾帶領英國人民決心迎接―血，汗與淚‖并最終贏得了勝利。今天，神州五號載著第一位中國宇航員進入了太空。我可以預見到，未來會有更多的神州六號、七號這樣的

24、LIFE IS A CHOICE

In our daily lives, we have many choices to make, such as what to eat for supper,what clothes to wear, or what to do on weekends.At certain times in our lives, we need to make even more critical choices, such as which school to attend, what job to take or who to choose as husband or wife.Yes, life is a matter of choice.Seemimgly, it means a choice of tangible things.But in essence, it means choosing a way of life.Life is to be lived, savored, and enjoyed, not to be wasted or complained about.Hardly can we forget the time when our society faced the grave threat from the life-and-death disease--SARS.Yet, even during those dreadful times, some afflicted people remained optimistic.Instead of wearing neutral white masks, some people turned to colouful ones, and thus display a happy mood.And some creative people dubbed SARS to mean ”SMILE AND REMAIN SMILING.“ I was deeply touched by their optimisim, nearly forgetting that we're still in a battle.people who survive these kinds of circumstances,(at some point)decide in their minds to carry on in spite of the overwhelming odds.laid-off workers, typically regarded as the victims of economic advancement, are subject to desperation that being unmeployed has brought on them.But, encouragingly, we have witnessed some of them striving hard to rebuild confidence toward life and discover new opportunities for demonstrating their values.Although we cannot choose our appearance, inborn gifts and even avoid unexpected disasters and adversities, we do have the privilege to choose to live optimistcally,to love our lives, to have dreams, and to cherish hopes.33

Every morning when we get up, we have a choice of how we want to approach life that day.As for me, I choose to be cheerful.24、生活是一種選擇

responsible for reform.They've brought us closer than we have ever been to passing health insurance reform on behalf of the American people.Now is the time to finish the job.The bill that the House has produced will provide stability and security for Americans who have insurance;quality, affordable options for those who don't;and lower costs for American families and American businesses.And as I've insisted from the beginning, it is a bill that is fully paid for and will actually reduce our long-term federal deficit（赤字，不足）.This bill is change that the American people urgently need.Don't just take my word for it.Consider the national groups who've come out in support of this bill on behalf of their members: The Consumers Union supports it because it will create--and I quote--”a more secure, affordable health care system for the American people.“ The American Medical Association and the American Nurses Association support it on behalf of doctors and nurses and medical professionals who know firsthand what's broken in our current system, and who see what happens when their patients can't get the care they need because of insurance industry bureaucracies（官僚政治）.The National Farmers Union supports this bill because it will control costs for farmers and ranchers（牧場主）, and address the unique challenges rural Americans face when it comes to receiving quality care.And the AARP supports it because it will achieve the goal for which the AARP has been fighting for decades--reducing the cost of health care, expanding coverage for America's seniors, and strengthening Medicare for the long haul.Now, no bill can ever contain everything that everybody wants, or please every constituency（選區）and every district.That's an impossible task.But what is possible, what's in our grasp right now is the chance to prevent a future where every day 14,000 Americans 35

continue to lose their health insurance, and every year 18,000 Americans die because they don't have it;a future where crushing costs keep small businesses from succeeding and big businesses from competing in the global economy;a future where countless dreams are deferred or scaled back because of a broken system we could have fixed when we had the chance.What we can do right now is choose a better future and pass a bill that brings us to the very cusp（尖頭，尖端）of building what so many generations of Americans have sought to build--a better health care system for this country.Millions of Americans are watching right now.Their families and their businesses are counting on us.After all, this is why they sent us here, to finally confront the challenges that Washington had been putting off for decades--to make their lives better, to leave this country stronger than we found it.I just came from the Hill where I talked to the members of Congress there, and I reminded them that opportunities like this come around maybe once in a generation.Most public servants pass through their entire careers without a chance to make as important a difference in the lives of their constituents and the life of this country.This is their moment, this is our moment, to live up to the trust that the American people have placed in us--even when it's hard;especially when it's hard.This is our moment to deliver.I urge members of Congress to rise to this moment.Answer the call of history, and vote yes for health insurance reform for America.36

It is human nature that all of us should be fond of beauty.Everybody was born with a heart for beauty.Today in China,with the rising of our living standard, people's requirement of beauty has been heightened accordingly.Some people spare no money or energy on beautiful clothes, fashionable hair styles,the decoration of their houses and even the improvement of their looks.But it seems to me,all these are more or less confined to the beauty in appearance,or rather,the outward beauty.In my opinion,we shouldn't only pay attention to beautiful appearance and neglect the beautification of the mind and what we are after should be the perfect unity of the outward beauty and the inner beauty.As we all know,so far as objects and animals are concerned,there is only beautiful appearance to be mentioned, but to us humanbeings, although the outward beauty really matters, the inner beauty is much more important.This was confirmed by a famous Russian writer in words much like this: ”A person is not lovely for being beautiful but beautiful for being lovely.“

Here, I'd like to quote two typical instances and I'm sure, my dear friends,from them you'll find out what real beauty is.Recently I learned from the radio an unpleasant incident about a well known singer.She is very charming with a sweet beautiful voice and very famous for singing the song.”Devotion of Love“.Not long ago,she was invited to Zhejiang Province to give performance.The moment she was to appear on the stage,she suddenly asked for more reward.Worse still,after her request was satisfied, she didn't begin to sing at once.Instead,she took her time to count all the money piece by piece.37

Thus she kept the audience waiting for half an hour.So when she at last showed up and started to sing ”Devotion of Love“,a man rose up from his seat and shouted at her,”You don't have any devotion of love.You are not qualified to sing this song!“Hearing this, the singer stopped singing and began to shout abuses with her finger pointed at the man.At this time the whole audience burst into an uproar.How disappointed her keen listeners were when they learned this!It is the singer herself who spoiled her beautiful image in the eyes of others.Now, I'm coming to another true story.It's about a poor, ordinary looking old woman.She was a widow without any children, living barely from hand to mouth by picking odds and ends from rubbish heaps.However,she took in more than ten homeless orphans successively and managed to bring them up.Every day she labored from morning till night.In order to earn as much money as possible to raise the children and to keep them in school,she even went to a hospital regularly to sell her blood.She got so weak for the loss of blood that she sometimes fell in a faint on her way home.When asked why she chose to burden herself with so many children,she smiled and simply answered,”Oh,I love children and I like to have their company.“

Though the old woman was poor materially, she was full of affection and rich in spirit.She was loved dearly by her children.She was also highly appreciated by the local government, and truly respected by people in her community.Maybe you can't help wondering, ”What makes that ordinary woman so extraordinary?“ It is nothing else but her inner beauty, her true devotion of love without any thought of rewarding.What a sharp

contrast there is between the great woman and the selfish singer]

So,to answer the question ”What is real beauty?", I declare definitely,it is the beauty lying in one's heart of hearts and embodied in his actions and deeds,that is,the inner heauty!

27、My definition of success I am very glad to be here to share with you my ideas of success.What is success? It is what everyone is longing for.Sometimes success would be rather simple.Winning a game is success;getting a high grade in the exam is success;making a new friend is success;even now I am standing here giving my speech is somehow also success.However, as a person‘s whole life is concerned, success becomes very complicated.Is fortune success? Is fame success? Is high social status success? No, I don‘t think so.I believe success is the realization of people‘s hopes and ideals.Nowadays, in the modern society there are many people who are regarded as the successful.And the most obvious characteristics of hem are money, high position and luxurious life.So most people believe that s success and all that they do is for this purpose.But the problem is wether it is real success.We all know there are always more money, higher position and better condition in front of us.If we keep chasing them, where is the end? What will satisfy us at last? Therefore, we can see, to get the real Success we must need something inside, which is the realization of people‘ hopes and ideals.Different people have different ideas about success;cause people‘s hopes and ideas vary from one another.But I am sure every success is dear to everybody, cause it is not easy to come by, cause in the process of our striving for success, we got both our body and soul tempted, meanwhile we are enlightened by the most valuable qualities of human beings: love, patient, courage and sense of responsibility.These are the 39
