孫婷在美華中心（美國馬里蘭大學）實習心得

今年三月，我在馬大美華中心的翻譯實習項目第一階段結束，第二階段延期至9月底。延期給我更多的時間，從更深更廣泛的角度來了解美國文化體制和我的口譯工作。

進入春天的華盛頓和馬大校園格外的漂亮，天氣晴朗，空氣清新，各色花卉將校園妝點的多姿多彩。寒假之后，美華中心又迎來了新的忙碌的一年。三月開始，長期團和短期團前后來到馬大培訓。

美華中心資深研究員Ken開始隨團出行。Ken曾經在美國聯邦政府問責辦公室（GAO）工作，對美國政府運作體制和文化有著相當深入的了解。很重要的一點是，Ken已經七十多歲了。

在中國，人們通常認為，六十歲退休之后，享清福是人生最悠閑且最享受的時光。而美國人的想法卻很不同。Ken每次上課的開場白都是：?My name is Ken Hunter, and I’m the Senior Researcher with MCI.‘Senior’ means I’m pretty old!?每每引得全班團員開心地笑。每當團員表達對Ken堅持工作的欽佩時，Ken總是說，不要去想退休這件事，你就能充滿活力去工作。這讓我想起了研二廣交會時認識的Mike，他也是近七十歲，每年都來中國參加廣交會和家具展。他曾告訴我，他在倫敦的住房貸款已經全部付清了，現在可以一身輕松地工作了！

與這些和我外公同齡的人一起共事總是讓我感觸頗深。我喜歡和他們交談，聽他們說起20年前在阿富汗的神奇經歷，或是10年前美國聯邦政府預算危機和現在有何不同。這些和媒體層面追逐新聞效益的報道不同，它們不浮夸，沒有利益和故意的偏見。

由此，我很欽佩美國沒有強制退休年齡這一點。在人才管理方面，除了對青少年創造性的開發，同時也有對經驗豐富的老年工作者的尊敬和認識。將老年工作者視作一個知識和智慧的寶庫一點也

不夸張。

在美國的博物館里，我們很容易看到許多資深志愿者導游，他們都是七十或八十多歲。他們或許曾經在這棟古老建筑里工作過，或許經歷過戰爭，豐富的人生閱歷讓他們的講解更為獨特。

在我們看到年輕人的朝氣和創造力，中年人的務實和兢兢業業時，我們同樣感激老年工作者們的貢獻，讓這個向上的國家擁有堅實的智慧根基。

The honor of speaking at a university commencement has been shattered for one Chinese graduate of the University of Maryland, after her speech drew widespread criticism for bolstering negative Chinese stereotypes.在大學畢業典禮上發言的榮譽，由于馬里蘭大學一名中國畢業生而破滅了。她因發表支持中國負面形象的演講而受到了廣泛批評。

The speaker, Yang Shuping, began her speech at the ceremony on May 21(local time), explaining that it was “fresh air” that made her come to the university in the first place.這名名為楊舒平的發言人于當地時間5月21日在典禮上發表了演講，她解釋道，美國的“新鮮空氣”是她來馬里蘭大學的首要原因。

“Five years ago, as I stepped off the plane from China and left the terminal at Dallas Airport, I was ready to put on one of my five face masks.But when I took my first breath of American air, I put my mask away.The air was so sweet and fresh, and oddly luxurious,” said Yang, adding that she felt surprised because she grew up in a Chinese city “where I had to wear a face mask every time I went outside;otherwise, I might get sick.” 楊舒平說道：“五年前，當我從來自中國的飛機走下來，離開多拉斯機場終點站的時候，我 準備從備好的五個口罩中拿出一個戴上。但是當我呼吸到美國的第一口空氣的時候，我就把口罩給扔了。這里的空氣很甜、很新鮮、且極致奢華。”她還表示，她感到十分意外，因為在她長大的中國城市，“我每次出門都要帶上口罩；否則，我會感到不適。”

The graduate then continued, claiming that she would be “forever grateful” for the “fresh air of free speech,” since she used to be convinced that only authority figures could define the truth.這位畢業生繼續說道，她“永遠感激”這里“自由的言論和自由的空氣”，因為她以前認為只有權威人士才能定義真理。

In response, an online activity has been launched to call on Chinese students in the U.S.to make videos to introduce themselves and their hometowns in a more

objective way.作為回應，網友們發起了網上活動，呼吁在美中國留學生制作視頻以更為客觀的方式介紹自己和家鄉。

Students at the University of Maryland reportedly mulled to rally with T-shirts reading “Proud of China.” They also expected the university, known for its truth-seeking and diversity, to answer to the calls.據稱，馬里蘭大學的學生們正在考慮穿上印有“我為中國自豪”文字的T恤集會。他們還希望，以尋求真理和多元化著稱的馬里蘭大學，能夠回應這一呼吁。
