寫作是一種創造性的活動（creativewriting），不應該拿某個框框去套。但由于統考的命題作文有其獨特的要求，故在對策上也要有所側重，發現自己的問題，找出解決的辦法。本書根據四級作文的標準，總結歷年考生出現的問題，建議大家從以下五個方面入手，有意識地訓練自己的寫作能力。

1.Content

要求切題(Topic: to the point)，表達觀點清晰明確，涵蓋所給出的各項內容。近年常考的議論文，以提綱式為主，一般給出三條提示，這便是考生寫文章時必須要包括的要點，若有遺漏，則要因為內容不完整而丟分。那么，是否完全按照三條指示行文，不能做任何變化呢？沒有如此絕對的教條，考生可以在此基礎之上根據自己的構思，寫出切題的內容，但要注意不要為了湊字而生搬硬套，以致文不對題，畫蛇添足。在內容方面，也要切忌一個意思翻來覆去地說個沒完，這種車轱轆話暴露出寫作能力的不足，實為作文大忌。簡明扼要，切中要點即可。

2.Structure

在結構方面，并不要求完完全全按照三段論的模式，也不必統統寫成八股文式的千篇一律的文章。原則應該是在保證布局謀篇完整的前提下，根據行文需要，在段與段之間做必要的安排和調整。但要注意的是，整體構架要完整(complete)，思路要有邏輯性(logical)，過渡要自然連貫(coherent)，不能有頭無尾，顛三倒四，還要注意避免重復，保證結構的玲瓏剔透。

3.Language

語言問題是應該列為重點并且需要下大功夫練習的一個方面，因為所有的思想觀點都是通過語言來表達、闡述的。如果語言運用能力不強，縱然腦中有奇思妙想和精辟論述也無法表達出來，或者只是中文思維模式的照搬。那么，如何改進呢？語言的功夫不是一天造就的，也不是突擊一下就萬事大吉的。具體到考試過關這個層面，大家可以從以下幾個方面著手訓練：

(1)力求做到表述清楚、正確(express clearly and correctly)。要求語法知識掌握得較好，寫作文時細心，寫完后復查。這是最最基本的一點，尤其要注意十八類經常出錯的方面，詳見本篇第四章的《常見錯誤類型及改正》。

(2)在行文正確的基礎上，注意句型（pattern）與措詞（diction）的靈活多變性（variation）。這一點可以顯示出對語言的實際運用能力，使得文章有閃光點，不呆板。如果通篇使用SVO句型（主謂賓式），就非常單調，應該根據需要恰當地運用主從句、倒裝句、強調句等有些特色的句型。

在措詞方面，應該避免逮住某一個詞，一用到底，好像除了這個詞，就不知道還應該用什么詞了。這是語言貧乏的表現。為了改正，可以有意識地記住一些有用的同義或反義的詞或詞組及表達式，在適當的時候派上用場，為文章增色。例如表示“減少”的詞語，除了decrease之外，還有：abate, reduce, drop, sink, subside, shrink, decline, dwindle, diminish, lower, fall, curtail, make less, cut into, go down等等。

在追求語言靈活性的時候，也要注意不要生硬、頻繁地使用自己不明其意，不知其用途的冷僻大詞、怪詞，一定要在已經掌握的基礎上再加以“靈活”運用。

4.Example

舉例一定要恰當，要能夠幫助自己更好更深入地說明論點，而不能隨便地硬擺在文章中。例子用得好，能夠增強說服力；但若用得不好，其反作用必然會影響作文的效果，倒不如不用了。現在以Don't Hesitate to Say No這篇作文為例，來看看下面兩個例子。

A.東郭先生與狼的故事

B.雨天，弟弟要與哥哥一起打傘去上學，哥哥應該“Don't Hesitate to Say No”。

不用細說，大家可以體會出例A妙用了眾所周知的故事，體現出本篇作文的主題，有很好的說服力，且有趣味性。而例B，非但無法幫助說明主題，反而有些不近情理了。

例子在議論文中的作用很大，應該好好掌握如何運用生動貼切的例子，使之更好地為文章主題服務。

5.Individual Style

個人風格是指文章要有自己個性，避免大眾化的套式寫作。因為所有應試考生都是就同一個題目、按同樣的提綱內容來寫作，這樣一來，要想在短短的30分鐘內，寫出與眾不同的文章很難，除非有自己的絕招——style。這不是短期之內靠老師教出來的，而是需要自己平常多讀佳作，多練多寫，慢慢地錘煉出自己的風格。
