近段時間一直在擰一些亂亂的文字，看得亂流突襲，開始發覺在生活中講話都失去語感。于是產生了懶惰情緒，不愿意再在艱澀晦深的問題中繼續停留，轉而回身讀一些小時候所看的東西。第一本看的，便是《簡愛》。《簡愛》是這么一本東西。我的英文水平，是可以讀原文的，但是看著那令人目眩的動輒三四行的長句，往往就望而卻步。手頭一個版本是黃源深翻譯的。感覺還不錯。隨看隨翻。在午后陽光和一杯烏龍茶的幫助下，我成功的做到了神游物外，逃避現實，重新回到初一時第一次讀這本書的記憶中。

我在讀初一前，看的大多是古書，或者白話文。所以我現在能用現代語寫作和勾引mm，啟蒙者是我初一暑假讀的那一堆西方文學著作。這一點，我認同王小波的話：真正的現代漢語，是一群偉大的翻譯家留下來的。從這個意義上來講，他們是我語言的老師。

對于《簡愛》，早先我是完全被它的語言所打倒。如癡如醉，魂牽夢縈，有段時間張口閉口都在學那種英國式優雅的口吻。小時候圖個好玩，沒對情節具體參悟，在心目中這就是一部完美華麗的詩歌。是記憶花園中最后的秘藏。但是重新讀過一遍之后，語言的流麗依舊，卻在情節與構思中發現了一些別的。

聽過一個說法，就是《簡愛》發表之初，有人認為它和《呼嘯山莊》出自同一人手筆。如果現在來看，我得承認的是，《呼嘯》的水平，怕是在《簡愛》之上多矣。語言方面我沒資格去斤斤計較——英文還沒到如此水平——僅僅論及結構和流勢，如此而已。

我在重讀《簡愛》的過程中，發現了一些令我不安的東西。那些東西附身于小說的夾縫之中。我之不安是在于：我已對其產生隱約的不滿，而我又不想去忤逆我曾經至愛的經典。無論如何，我在行文之中，發現了一些不令我愉快的東西。
